I am thinking of getting a new camara, i've had the canon 350d for 3/4 years and as we've got a trip to Botswana in oct coming up...
Was going to give Dave my 350 d and after looking at some reviews think i might go for the 50 d. The 5d mk11 looks beautiful too but too pricey.
Has anyone got the 50d? if so what's your thoughts? good or bad.

Diane/Ian just looking at your thread on the 7d - doesn't appear you can get it yet - also no idea on how much more expensive it'd be?!

50d is good or even the 40d secondhand....... solid camera with a good feel, with good results as long as you use a good lens to go with it though.... I have a 40d as my backup camera, I'm really pleased with the results it gives me.... big screen on the back makes viewing your images so much easier & all the functions/controls you bring up. Obviously the 50d is the replacement for the 40d with increase pixel count, but you could save a stack of money getting the 40d & use your savings for lens upgrade if you needed to. Both are good.... Hope this helps

Can't comment on a Canon lol, but I'd agree with Ian (there's a turn up for the books!) and say don't spend all your pennies on just the camera.. Either that, or for Botswana hire a good lens.. No point having a good camera and no glass to put on the front..

Sonya, both Mike and Caroline at the club have the 50D and Donna who comes on here also recnetly bought it... you might want to pm/email them..its a very nice camera

Like Ian says you could save some money by going for the 40D..... or take a look on ebay..search photography and then canon outlet... you might find a good deal there... worth a look.

the 50d is great , nice weight and a good nexr step with allthe other bits to learn. what about the 7d just to confuse things more.

thanks guys - so regarding the lenses.
I've already got the 18-55mm lens that comes with the camara, 70-300mm USM IS lens, and 60mm macro lens.
but I was considering a new lens too. If dave has my old camara then we were looking at perhaps getting either a mega zoom lens
e.g. Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical
or perhaps just something to upgrade the 18-55 lens
e.g. EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

any thoughts??

Igot two or three lenses that I thought were ok, over time I find myself selling them for a lot less so I could get the better lens I should have saved for in the first place. We never seem satisfied with wot we got!!
