I like the second image Wayne out of the two as it really picks up on the detail & surface texture....

Hi, For me the second one looks fantastic.

I like the way your viewpoint is higher then its eye-level so you are able to capture more of the over all details.

Great job.

Wayne,

What type of surface was the object on, its like its a shiny sufrace. And did you have a black backdrop or is it a bit of photo-shopping? Oh I wish I had been there last night, had to spend last night dealing with fraudulent credit card use on my account, so a double whammy!

I am hoping to have a practice at home this weekend with flash and still life so could do with some tips of setting the scenes etc.

Saz

Dawn & I did question where you were last night......

I hope you got it all sorted out Saz..

Was this the result of using your card on the net or has the card been cloned :?: :?:

Love the 2nd one Wayne...may be a little seperation between the subject and the background may have made it totally spot on??? a bit of rim light may be?

ype blue rim kinda spoils the first one, other than that though it would be a nice image, the second images is spot on.. except I'd have liked just a little seperation with light from the background..but still a really pleasing shot! well done!

Shot 1 - for me its too busy and (unless I am completely wrong) f stop a little too low for this shot for my liking (keen to know what you shot at as it was flash photo), there is only one piece in focus and being really critical it feels like its in the wrong place, my eye draws to the dice but they are fuzzy. Blue circle also distracting too. I feel like its a confusing photo. God hark me the critic!!! I love the second photo so please dont hate me!!! LOL

Thanks ladies.

Saz - dont be silly, only way to learn. The aperture was low deliberatley to give a sharp front piece and the others pieces are purley in the shot for context. The idea behind the shots was old games. I really liked the front piece as being slightly lighter in colour than the other three and had nice details in the wood.

Perhaps if the dice were old wooden and I had used an old chess board the shot could work better. Perhaps I'll see if I can buy an chess old set from a car boot and have another go in future.

Many thanks for the feedback though - exactly what I was looking for :)

I'd agree - rim light on that second one - see you need that 800, or you could have borrowed mine if I hadn't been standing on chairs lol :)

Where's your brooch pic? Not that I can talk, haven't got that one I was finally happy off the camera yet - just caught up with all the posts tonight after this week's work....
