Just got this weeks Amateur Photographer (due out Tues) and it has a full review of the Nikon D60. Looks like quite a good entry level camera.

Just thought I pass this on for anyone interested.

Enjoy your weekend!

I still don't see what it gives you over the D40x - same resolution, same lack of AF-S and the same 3 AF points?

Diane,

I thought the same until I read the review. One of the key items is the camera has the same image processing unit as the D300, the Expeed Processor so we are talking less noise.

The new bonus airflow anti-dust system which uses the airflow from the mirror movement to flow dust particles to the front and out. This is on top of the anit-dust feature taken from D300 also.

The other interesting thing about the review is it scores 1st over the Olympus E-410 and Canon 400D (which surprised me a lot - like to see few more reviews to re-enforce this).

For an upgrade on the D40, D40x or D50, then its got to be the D90 now coming at Photosomthing show in Autumn 2008.

lol, I'm investing in glass for a bit after all my flashes - will be very interested in the 60mm lens. Can't afford a new body yet!

So true glass is my main, excluding the lights, another flash, paper, cleaning kit, printer ink....etc

Although it did hit me if a person was to upgrade to a full frame camera in the future, wouldnt they have to replace their AF-S (G) lenses? :?

Ahem, skim read this in Tescos at lunchtime (I'm such a cheapskate!), it's very cunning of Nikon to get the D60 out there ahead of the 450D. Placing the Nikon above a two year (?) old Canon seems a little unfair!

I think reading a group test once the Canon is out might be more of a realistic comparison?

Upgrading to full-frame, yes I got caught out with that one, my favourite lens on my 350D wasn't compatible with the 5D I got for Chrimble. Also read in many mags that to do the 5D justice the L professional lenses are best used, so am looking for an evening job!

Saz,

You mention the L lenses, funny, as it was one of the reasons I chose Nikon over Canon. More nikkor lenses in my price range and lens range with good IQ.

But as they say each to their own :)
